Mad Men style on Etsy

Mad Men, the new season number 6, starts next Sunday.  Such an awesome show not only for story lines but also the costumes, furniture and over all style.  I am part of a craft group called the Etsy NY Team.  One of my obligations on the team is to create treasuries showing off some of the goods from our 260 members.  Not every item is only Etsy NY members so we are able to include world wide sellers.

Tuesday is my treasury day and I chose the subject of Mad Men.  Etsy.com not only sells handmade items from around the world but also sells vintage items.  If you are looking for one of a kind items, want to support local and not something made by unfair labor practices check out some of these items.

To see the whole treasury click here.

Now that my honey and I are both dressed you can find us having cocktails in these cool Dorothy Thorpe Tumblers found in JunkGirlGreen

And if I get stuck for something to say or have some awesome design idea, while having my cocktail I can always check my Don Draper notebook.

Watermelon - a tasty fruit and fantastic color!

Tuesday at work, at Purl, I designed a bundle of half yard pieces of fabric to sell.
6 half yards go into each bundle. And when designing them it gets tricky and challenging when you get to the fifth and sixth fabrics. Today we were cutting the bundles and putting them together. I realised I Love this bundle! I may even buy it.

from left to right
quilter's linen, remix in green, yuwa honeycomb dots, raindrops on poseys, pink quilter's linen, watermelon slices

I love not only the watermelon print from Robert Kaufman but each piece makes me feel summer happy. Watermelon colored polka dots, bright neon pink and neon green quilter's linen and lime green gradient remix from Kaufman. I just wanted to get home to my studio and start working; mix and match set of napkins? Or a patchwork table cloth for a bbq?  A little girl's dress? A summer picnic quilt? The possibilities are endless!

What would you create?

One last note- check out this watermelon yarn from Madeline Tosh.

Madeline Tosh light in espadrille - while I was winding this for a customer  I thought  "this should be called watermelon".

Yummm....Want some watermelon items? I must have been in  a watermelon mood yesterday. Here is my Ode to the Watermelon on etsy for the Etsy NY Team.
Happy Friday!

Which dress should I make?

Hi Friends,
Today I am writing over at etsynyteam blog. Formerly the newnew, you should go check it out. You have the opportunity to vote on a dress for me to make. I have taken on the challenge of making a dress from Built By Wendy dress book. I hear from so many friends, colleagues and customers how they can't find a cute easy summer dress to make. Well I am taking it on. Call it my own Project Runway, Fashion Star or some other reality show name. This should be fun!

Here is a sneak peek but to get the full low down check out the post:

Which one should I make?

I will be posting my progress here and at the etsynyteam blog.

Thanks for reading!
